Getting a preseason look at their new BIIF Division I rival, the Vikings overcame a sluggish start to beat Honokaa 47-37. Lexi Pana and Sharlei Graham-Bernisto each finished with six points, and Kizzah Maltezo led the Dragons with 16.
Hilo previously defeated Waiakea and Kamehameha-Hawaii at the tournament. The Dragons were 2-1, getting double-figure scoring from Maltezo, a senior guard, in each game.
All four teams will be back in action at Hilo’s preseason tournament, which runs Thursday-Saturday at the Vikings’ gym and Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Waiakea 38, Kamehameha 35: Danielle Oda delivered 17 points and Waiakea jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and held on for its first victory at the tournament.
Saydee Aganus scored 11 points for Kamehameha, the only Division II team in the field.
The victory could be a costly one for Waiakea. Junior co-captain Kryssie Okinaka injured her leg during the first half and had to carried off the court.

Hilo 60, Waiakea 22: Lexi Pana and Mandi Kawaha each scored 11 points and the Vikings took control with a 27-point first quarter.
Kryssie Okinaka had seven for Waiakea.

Honokaa 49, Waiakea 39: Kizzah Maltezo led the way again with 17 points and Markell Marquez added 16 for the Dragons, who got going in the second quarter and led 20-11 at the half.
Danielle Oda finished with 11 for the Warriors.
